This facility is the first LEED Platinum Certified in Michigan.
The project involved the renovation and restoration of a 19th Century farm house and barn along with restoring the adjacent prairie landscape. Preference was given to locally manufactured materials, certified wood, recycled content and low emitting materials. Energy was conserved through reducing lighting requirements, increasing natural lighting and ventilation, and incorporating a “green” roof in the design. Outside, use of low-maintenance plants facilitates taking in storm water and precluded the need for further irrigation. The project recycled 75 % of construction waste!
